January Fundraising Totals
Written by Aaron Cianci
Sunday, 31 January 2010 15:19

It's hard to believe that January 2010 is already over, don't you think? Well, as hard as it may be to believe, it is indeed true, and January has been an amazing month for the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Second Life. So far, we've already beaten last year's fundraising total, and we still have four months to go! Isn't that amazing?

Here are our totals.

Total Cash Donations: $300

Total Linden Dollar Donations: $151,555 (Cash Value: $542.98 At Current Lindex Rates)

That means we have raised a total of $842.98 so far for the Ride for Roswell. This is an amazing total, and far better than we expected to do for our first month out there. I am so very pleased, and Shujin and I would like to share our deepest gratitude with everyone who has been participating so far, from our business partners to those out there soliciting places for us to place our donation boxes. Thank you.

As promised, I am making our Excel transaction history available, which you can access here. There are a few transactions which may seem anomalous, so I would like to go ahead and explain those particular transactions now:

Transaction codes beginning with 644960c7 and 06778de0, dated 1/22/2010, are two L$1 debits from the account (back into the same account). They were payments made into new boxes for the sake of testing. We have finalized the code on the boxes, so this should not be necessary in the future.

Spreadsheet line 129 had the payer's name removed. Spreadsheet line 128, transaction beginning with 3a4e2aef, shows as a $600 debit from the account, back into the same account. The donor paid the avatar directly instead of one of the boxes, and the money was re-paid into a box so that the corporate sponsor location would get credit for it. The $600 credit line above that has the donor's name removed for the request of anonymity.

Spreadsheet line 168, transaction code beginning with 2e3798bd, shows a L$80 debit from the account to JackTheJackal Silverfall. This is a donation that was paid into a box before it was ready to accept them, and it was returned to him so the corporate sponsor would receive proper credit once the box was set up properly. The duplicate transaction was removed from the database (but is still visible in the transaction history as line 172).

The only other problem I have to report is that, as you can see, the report cuts off on January 5th, five days into the month. Sadly, this is the fault of the Second Life account transaction history system, and is not something we can bypass. It can only record 500 transactions in the history. Therefore, from this point forward, we will be doing the report every 15 days instead of every 30, to make sure that our transparency is maintained. You should expect our next spreadsheet posting on February 15, 2010.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Aaron Cianci or ShujinTribble Kawanishi in world! Thank you so much!

It begins again....
Written by Shujin Tribble

Yes... after a year's absence, AngioSarcoma.Org (ASO) is back....

When last we left our story, Shujin Tribble's previous hosting company closed down, unfortunately. Due to some timing screwups on his own part, Shujin wasn't able to collect the old information from the servers before they were taken down.... so the old forums and photo collection and emails have gone 'bye-bye'.

BUT ALL IS NOT LOST! ASO now has a new home, a new host.... and, FAR more importantly, HELP!

Over the last year, I've been involved with Second Life; a 3D world where nearly anything can happen, if you can imagine it. I'd been hanging out at a place called The Feline Conspiracy, or TFC for short. Well, the head (as the time really the ONLY DJ) said he wanted some time off and asked for people who'd like to be DJ's to try out. Because of that, I started being a DJ for TFC on a dead night of the week - Wednesdays, doing what I knew best; 80's music.

Surprisingly enough, not only did I gain a following, but in that time TFC became a home for me. At the end of my shows, I talk about what it means to have True Love, that Soulmate Love, that Capital-L-Love, that I was lucky enough to have with Fujin, my wife. I've talked about how she fought AngioSarcoma... how we kept eachother going... and how I promised her, atthe end, "We will beat this for someone else.... My Word."

Unfortunately, during that year, we've also lost one of my closest friends: "Doctor" Bill Estell, who rode with me on the first Ride For Roswell fundraiser in 2005, just a month after Fujin died, himself lost a battle with Leukemia in September 2009. He got me my start on broadcast radio, instumental in helping me get my own show for a while..... My "Brother from another mother", he said. Even though they are different cancers, I do this all in memory and honour of them both - and for ALL those who fight and need to be heard.

And now, with new support for myself, for the cause, for us all, I'd like to thank the following people and groups from Second Life, in no particular order:

  • Tau and Katja Switchblade - for making the Frankenstein's Monster that TFC has become
  • Aaron Cianci - for giving me a chance to be a DJ with you... and, more importantly now, the help I really need to make ASO succeed
  • ALL my extended family from Clubs TFC and Xanadu - for staying with me through over a year of being your late-night entertainment
  • Mimika Oh / Bibiten Dresses - for recreating Fujin's favorite red cheongsam and giving them away in Second Life along with our story
  • The nice folks at Enkything Shoes - for letting me sell the matching shoes to the dress
  • And, truly, I have to thank seperately Merlot Andalso. Were it not for her taking time to talk with me, long-time gone, about Fujin and our story, I might not have ever taken the time to get to know TFC... and learned what a family I had just waiting for me.

With that, it is now 11 January.... One-One-One... It's time to get ASO back to what it was always meant to be - A place for all us One-In-A-million fighters and supporters and helpers and friends and family and loved ones.

...it's a plce where I can fulfill My Word to Fujin: "We will beat this for someone else.... My Word."

Matane, Fujin.... Dream of me.

-- Your Shujin

Fundraising Period Begins
Written by Aaron Cianci

The process of fundraising in Second Life has begun for the 2010 Ride for Roswell, and for the End of Cycle for Sarcoma team this year. We've already gotten five or six volunteers to take donation boxes on their property, and we're working to get the word out to as many people as we can about the nature of what we're trying to do.

I've also been in contact with Pete Linden to make sure that we can keep things as transparent for our donors as possible. We've already decided we will be doing a monthly copy of EndOfCycleForSarcoma Davidov's transaction history to this site, so everyone can verify the funds are sitting there, waiting to be pulled out in May, at the end of the event.

If anyone has any further suggestions or ideas for how we might best be able to provide transparency, please feel free to contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Additionally, if you are a Second Life land owner or resident who has wandered to our wonderful home from a Linden's blog or the SL Twitter feed, feel free to look around, enjoy yourself, and contact me if you have any questions or concerns, or would like to help us beat cancer!
