Let me tell you about a great man. Someone who was vastly intelligent, filled with wisdom, beautiful philosophy, and truly indomitable. I Love him. Allow me give you an example of his character.

Leukemia is painful and they put you on a lot of drugs to make it not painful. There he was, in the hospital, on his Death bed and he was not taking pain medications. He refused them. Why do you ask? Time is finite to humans and every moment we spend is a part of our finite lives that we will never have again. Drugs can make you incoherent and unaware of your surroundings to such a degree, that you do not know when your loved ones may be visiting. So unaware of their presence infact, you may later discover that you received a visit and they remained for hours before going leave, and you missed it. When you're on your death bed, time is much more vital to you for these are the precious final moments of your life, so he refused anymore anesthetic which stopped the cruel pains of his cancer.

He chose to live out the last moments of his life in immense pain in favor of being able to see his beloved again before his death. He died with a smile, and laughter at the irony of his life. Indomitable to the truest extent and yet taken so early in his life by his own body.

Seth would not marry because he did not wish to leave a widow. When your life aches and you can naught but cry yourself to sleep everyday, those whom love you try to comfort you and say, 'It'll get easier with time.' or 'don't worry, time heals everything' but the fact is, this is not true. The wound in your life will never heal, but you will learn to live with it. You will remember, everyday the person you love. Some days will be harder than others, but you will stand again. I really miss him.

When you lose the person you love, you reject anyone else who you could love. You don't want to stain the memory of your beloved, to ever replace them, or to forget them. The truth is, you can't forget, replace, or stain your memory of them no matter what you do. The only thing that would make them unhappy is to know that you, their beloved, has spent the rest of your life in solitude and mourning.

I made a promise to him that I would not mourn his passing for the rest of my life and instead live my life. He wanted me to waste as little time mourning him as I could because time is just too precious. It is precious. I failed. Today, I'm aware that it was always impossible to keep such a promise, heh a truth I'm sure he knew. Indomitable to the last he was. you will never stop mourning, but you will live your life and find happiness, or live your life mourning fully and stain their memory after all.

Time as we perceive it will move on with or without us. The things we do today, echoes for the rest of our species existence. Everything we do today without exception will be the heritage of our species. The diseases we have cures for today, there was a time that there weren't cures. Those who lived back then, paved the way for us to not live in fear of old diseases like Smallpox. Bacterial infections are no longer as deadly.

I always believed that if I could help prevent one person from not feeling this, then... (pauses and takes off my glasses because of the tears...) ...

It never really gets easier, you just bare it better with time.

I chose to not omit my crying from this because I feel it's important to understand that it's okay to break down, and let it out. The pain is always there, always throbbing at your soul. There's nothing emo about it, that's life. Sometimes the Princess Bride comes true, and other times someone dies and lovers are irreversibly torn from each other, forever.

If you've felt the pain, then I'm sorry, so very, very sorry. If you have never felt the pain, then I hope you never do but until you do, you have absolutely nothing to compare it to. It hurts. It really, really hurts. If I can help prevent this feeling from taking hold over at least one more human, then I could say that it was worth it.

Today, I know better. Time flows and we either drown in it, or build. Those whom paved the way with the greatest tool ever created by humanity, science has made it so we no longer need fear the diseases that even our parents once lived in fear of. Today, we can begin to pave the stones to fight off new diseases, growing threats like Cancer.

The Ride for Roswell is a means to accomplish this. What we do is not for financial profit of any sort and in fact, 100% of all the donations taken here goes to accomplishing this goal, to help save lives, to help get closer to a cure. Alone we can't make much of a difference, but together we can create hope in someones life, and help pave the road to prevent not only a life of pain, but many.
